Unfortunately, people disappear constantly. We regularly hear the news about suddenly vanishing children and adults. Sometimes people have gone missing for a short period of time, sometimes for much longer, or even in many cases they’re never found. No one knows why and how it happens. When it comes to a disappearance, everything and everyone can disappear – like planes and ships around the Bermuda triangle (which is still a mystery to the scientists), as well as some famous celebrities.
There are several cases of historical figures, who have gone disappeared throughout the years.
1. Spartacus, the gladiator who led the largest slave revolt against Rome.
It is believed that Spartacus was a soldier of a Thracian army who fought on the side of the Romans. At the Siler River, Kras’s army defeats the rebels and Spartacus’s body was never found. Some believe he survived and went back to his home.
2. Anastasia Nikolaevna, Grand Duchess of Russia
Even if you don’t know the real story of the Grand Duchess Anastasia, her name maybe reminds you to the cartoon movie Anastasia. Her disappearance has been a subject of many speculations. The remains of the entire family, except for Anastasia and her brother Alexei, were found in the Yekaterinburg grave 60 years after their burial. Approximately a decade ago, in a nearby grave were found the other two children’s remains – Anastasia and Alexei.
3. Most people are familiar with the famous movie “12 Years a Slave”. The story is based on a book, written by Solomon Northrup.
After being kidnapped and sold into slavery to the south, Northrup managed to escape and to continue writing his book. He has gained tremendous influence in the abolitionist movement. During his book’s promotion in Canada, Solomon Northrup disappeared. There are two theories about his disappearance – he was killed by anti-abolitionists or was sold back into slavery.
