When you spend an awful night at a trashy hotel, the least you could do is warn other people about the poor accommodation. And that’s exactly what Tony and Jan Jenkinson did.
The couple, who are both in their sixties, booked a room for a night in the Broadway hotel in Blackpool, UK, little knowing that they would soon regret their decision. Jen and Tony spent an awful night and subsequently wrote a bad review on TripAdvisor, the biggest website for tourism-related reviews, tips and bookings. Unfortunately, the hotel’s staff saw the review and decided to punish the Jenkinsons by charging them an additional £100 (nearly $160) on their credit card for the bad review. According to the hotel, the couple had violated their policy against bad reviews.
Fortunately, this outrageous situation was fixed once Blackpool Council removed the hotel’s policy and asked the Broadway to refund the couple’s fine.
